You can Google walk the latter, and stand in front of the massive brick factory. It is now long abandoned, and its countless widows broken. But it wasnt that long ago that this factory like countless such factories across America was teeming with life, and supporting millions of families. This, back when America actually made stuff.
A part of Virdens popularity was pricing; Virden fixtures were affordable. The fixtures made in this period were made with detail in mind.
They were made to last and to be able to restore when needed, in fact they can last forever if taken care of. There are some things that are unique with the glass from this era, the bubbles in the glass are present sometimes.
The glass was not ready for the high heat bulbs that were sometimes used and this caused small stress cracks that are not a big deal and do not threaten the glass. There are small mold defects that you come across sometimes. Things that you really do not notice unless pointed out. These details are in general. The condition for these particular sconces for sale are explained below.
These are a very desirable style Berkeley and they are getting harder to find. They are from the 30s and have Virden stamped on the back of the frames. They have a Gothic look to them, and would look great for a Craftsman restoration. The style will allow them to mix with just about any decor. I do have some more matching pairs listed.
They are with a blend of gold, bronze and brass then antiqued to enhance and deepen the colors, allowing the detail to stand out. The frames are lightweight and very easy to install. The glass is almost 100 years old and the two shades are of a beautiful amber/yellow satin glass, mostly in great condition. There a re minor flea bites with no big visual defects. The rotary/turn switches are new and painted brass.
Also you will be able to possibly look at my other Virden sconce listings and see them also. We have many of these sconces for sale please take a look at the chandelier that matches them, of course in another listing. If you would like to break up the set please let me know and we can work it out.
Please take a peek at our other Art Deco, craftsman light fixtures. All are ready to install with new UL approved electrical and the hanging brackets are also included. 4 1/2 depth from the wall. Approx 11 inches with the shade installed tall. The sockets can easily handle 100 watts, but we recommend a limit of 60 - 65 watts if incandescent bulbs are to be used.Greater light output can be obtained by using energy efficient LED or compact fluorescent light bulbs. These types of light bulbs operate at cooler temperatures, and do not emit as much heat as incandescent. International buyers are welcomed and all buyers are appreciated.
